Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, yesterday, told the House of Representatives that she inherited a ‘bankrupt’ agency.
She said the aorganisation’s indebtedness was N3.2 billion, which she offset despite stiff opposition to her decision from people whose names she refused to mention.
Adeyeye spoke when she appeared before the James Falake-led House Committee on Finance probing financial statuses of various government agencies to boost the treasury
A breakdown by her, indicated that N1.6 billion was paid to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), with N700 million spent on foreign and domestic training of staff, while N400 million was paid to contractors
She decried the rot in the nation’s public service, stating: “Nigeria has no business borrowing if there is discipline in all sectors of the economy.”
