Anxiety has heightened in Bonny Island of Rivers State, as residents await the report of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) inquiring the recent 13 deaths in the community.
However, the local council authorities have advised dwellers to observe all times personal hygiene the WHO (World Health Organisation) public health requirements, especially social distancing and wearing of facemasks.
A team of NCDC officials had visited the community at the weekend to collect samples after the deceased had shown symptoms of malaria, including weakness, vomiting and stooling in the past two weeks.
But the Bonny council area through its secretary, Omoni LongJohn, and supervisor for health, Pafuro Tolofari, have blamed contaminated air for the sudden loss of sense of smell in the resource-rich settlement.
