The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, has expressed regrets that some states were still not testing enough. This, he said was making it difficult to understand the burden of the disease for effective response.
Speaking during the briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, on Thursday, he listed the states not testing enough to include Cross River, Jigawa, Kogi, Osun, Ebonyi, Adamawa and Zamfara States.
He said, “It’s important to test, to manage the outbreak and plan for vaccination.” The DG also noted that the FCT, Lagos, and Kaduna currently have the highest cases so far.
As the year ends and the festive period draws near, Ihekweazu again urged Nigerians to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols. He particularly advised against mass gatherings.
“The numbers are not looking good and we need to take this very seriously as we plan for the end of the year,” he urged.
