About 150 persons have lost their lives as a result of cholera outbreak across the 25 local councils of Niger State. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mohammed Sidi, revealed this at a workshop organised by Pathfinder International in Minna, the state capital.
Sidi explained that the outbreak, which was initially detected in 18 local councils, later spread all over the state. “Households need to have toilets in their homes because the government cannot stop people from defecating openly,” he said.
On polio, the commissioner disclosed that the state government still had budgetary provisions to ensure it never resurfaced in the state.
