Covid-19: Katsina Health Workers Well Positioned To Tackle Impending Pandemic – Masari

Katsina state governor, Aminu Bello Masari has said that the Health Care Workers in the state were well positioned to tackle the impending second wave of COVID 19.

Masari made this known yesterday in Katsina during the flag off ceremony for the distribution of drugs and medical supplies to health facilities across the State.

“As we face the Second Wave of Covid-19 Global Pandemic it is worthy to mention that through collaboration with our partners, Health Care workers were trained in Case Management,

Surveillance and infection prevention and control.

Drugs were also procured for managing cases. A vigorous sensitization campaign was conducted to ensure all the people of Katsina State have the correct information on COVID 19 and ways of preventing the disease. Stakeholders from Ministry of Education were also trained on safe re-opening of schools with provision of Infection Prevention Control materials to all schools,” the governor has said.

Masari said it was not out of sheer coincidence that Partners in the health sector who clearly witnessed all the efforts made by the state were taking more interest and coming forth to render support in taking health care service delivery to the next level.

The governor expressed gratitude and appreciation to all those Partners that have supported the state in its efforts and assured them of Government’s continuous support in order to see that they too achieve their mandate as they synergize with the state particularly during the trying period of Global pandemic and insecurity in some areas of the State.

Earlier in his remarks, the state Commissioner of Health, Engr. Yakubu Nuhu Danja, said the Masari administration had invested heavily in the health sector over the last 5 years.

“This investment is indisputable if one assess the renovation rehabilitation, upgrading and constructions of general hospitals, comprehensive and primary Health Centres across the 34 LGAs provision of hospital equipment, upgrade of the Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery and that of Health sciences.

Other areas according to the commissioner include employment, training and retraining of health personnel, implementation of primary health care under one roof, establishment of Contributory Healthcare Management Agency and Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency.

“The Government’s commitment in sustaining the supply of essential medicines and other medical supplies under both the drugs revolving fund and free Medicare schemes has made tremendous impact on the health of the common man,” he added.

He said the materials distributed were the antimalarial drugs and drugs for treating some ailments in children procured by the state Health Ministry and Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; More antimalarial drugs, some equipment and delivery packs were donated by Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).

Other donors were Brown Button Foundation who donated many delivery kits and drugs for facilitating delivery while all the all the equipment for personnel protection, disinfection, sanitation and general cleanliness were donated by Lafiya Programme.

He further stated that Another Partner SuNMap 2 has delivered their donation of drugs and commodities for Malaria eradication in Katsina State.

In her remarks, SuNMap 2 state team lead, Hajiya Hafsa Musa Baba, said the programme supported by Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), is a 5-year project to support malaria eradication in Katsina state, and has donated 84,699 pieces of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) and 23, 680 doses of antimalarial drugs to the state.

Also in speaking, the National coordinator of Lafiya Programme, Dr. Usman Gwarzo, said the Lafiya Project, also sponsored by the FCDO has donated PPEs and other consumables to Katsina state to the tune of N315m in two batches.
