The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, has appealed to the Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) to reconsider its planned strike scheduled to begin on April 8, 2026.
NUAHP had earlier issued a strike notice signed by its chairman, Elusoji Olumide, accusing the hospital’s Chief Medical Director of failing to address a lingering trade dispute that the union says has negatively impacted members’ welfare, professional status, and working conditions.
But in a statement released on Sunday, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Tope Fayehun, dismissed the allegations as unfounded, misleading, and inconsistent with the transparent and collaborative processes acknowledged by other staff groups.
According to the statement, the hospital remains committed to the well-being of all employees and urged the union to embrace dialogue rather than industrial action.
We remain fully committed to the welfare of our staff, the delivery of world class healthcare, and the continuous advancement of FUTA Teaching Hospital to meet the standards of leading teaching hospitals in Nigeria and beyond, the statement read.
The management stressed that all its actions align with established frameworks guiding federal teaching hospitals nationwide, adding that its decisions are aimed at improving service delivery for patients who rely on the institution for quality care.
We categorically deny all allegations levelled against the Chief Medical Director and management, including claims of arbitrary staff removals, forceful transfers, department scrapping, capricious demotions, inappropriate appointments, intimidation, or oppression, the statement added.
The hospital appealed to NUAHP members to shelve the planned strike and engage constructively with management.
Your cooperation remains vital to sustaining our current progress and ensuring uninterrupted, compassionate care for our patients. The management of FUTA Teaching Hospital remains open to dialogue and invites all stakeholders to witness our commitment firsthand, the statement concluded.
