The Lagos State Aids Control Agency on Sunday said it distributed food items to people living with HIV/AIDS as palliatives for the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Monsurat Adeleke, in a statement, said the gesture was a reflection of the inclusive governance initiative of the present administration in the state.
Adeleke noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who also doubles as the chairman of the agency, secured the relief materials under the auspices of the private sector-led Coalition Against COVID-19. While describing the relief materials as an all-in-one package, she disclosed that each of the 1,000 sacks contained 5 kilogrammes of sugar, 1kg of salt, 10kg of rice, 5kg of garri and a carton of pasta.
Adeleke claimed that 1,000 households of indigent people living with HIV/AIDS would benefit through their various networks, including the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, Association of Positive Youths in Nigeria and Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.
Representatives of the four groups were quoted to have said that with the effective monitoring mechanism of LSACA, their members would benefit from the relief materials.
