Ishaku Reiterates Commitment To Health Sector

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba state has again reiterated his commitment to galvanize the health sector to it's best especially in achieving the Universal Health Coverage (UHC ) as canvassed by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Governor who stated this in Jalingo through the Commissioner of Health , Dr. Innocent Vakkai during the state capacity building and training of trainers programmes,  said his administration would not relent in working round the clocks to achieved the UCH.

The said capacity building which was organized by the state Ministry of Health in collaboration with the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (TSPHCDA) and and the state Contributory Health Insurance Agency,  was said to have been geared towards training the trainers on capacity building in preparation for the taking off of  the Basic Health Care Provision Fund ( BHCPF).

Stating that the state is committed to the operantionalization of the BHCPF scheme "by meeting all conditions necessary for take up of the scheme especially in the setting up of the state Contributory Health Insurance Agency (TSHCIA) and also complying to the baseline training and the capacity building" the state according to him has fulfilled all the prerequisites "for the smooth take off of the programme in the state. "

While urging the national facilitators who according to him are equally determined that the scheme work "not only  in Taraba state but in the country at large to impart the necessary knowledge and skills for the smooth take off of the scheme " the need for the trainees to pay rapt attention to gain " maximally for the best performance ".

The governor who went further to expressed the readiness of the state government to key into the scheme as spelt out by the National Health Act (NHA),  said his administration would continue to give priority to the health sector by making available to the people especially those domiciling in the rural areas the much desired health facilities.

Earlier,  the Executive Secretary of the TSPHCDA, Alhaji Aminu Hassan Jauro,  who said the training would be cascaded down to the rural areas,  believed that the implementation of the BHCPF in the state ,  would go a long way to spread smiles on the faces of the people especially those domiciling in the rural communities.

He urged the trainees to take serious the ongoing training which our correspondent observed and brought together programme officers spread across all the health facilities located in the nooks and crannies of the state.

On the part  the leadership of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) who was represented by Abba Mohammed Sani,  reiterated the readiness of the agency in implementing the programme effectively.

While the first tranche of the amount earmarked for the programme which our correspondent learnt amounted to over N241 million was said to have be released,  the state government on it parts as also gathered by our correspondent,  have as well released over N100 million as it counterpart funds for the programme.
