Position Overview
- The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations at Acouns Laboratory. This role ensures accurate, efficient, and compliant testing processes, while maintaining high standards of quality assurance and safety.
- The Laboratory Manager supervises sample handling, testing workflows, result validation, and timely release of reports.
- The role also ensures audit readiness through enforcement of SOPs, implementation of quality control systems, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- The Laboratory Manager manages laboratory personnel, equipment, inventory, and client expectations to consistently meet turnaround times and service standards.

Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Workflow Management:
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure smooth, efficient, and uninterrupted service delivery.
- Ensure proper sample collection, handling, processing, testing, validation, and result release.
- Coordinate laboratory schedules, workloads, and shift coverage to meet service demands.
- Enforce strict adherence to approved laboratory workflows and SOPs.
Quality Control, Quality Assurance & Accreditation:
- Establish, implement, and monitor internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assurance (EQA) programs.
- Develop, review, and update laboratory SOPs in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure result accuracy, reliability, and reproducibility across all laboratory tests.
- Lead accreditation preparedness and audit readiness.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance:
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory bodies including MLSCN, Ministry of Health, NHIS, and other statutory authorities.
- Monitor license renewals, personnel certifications, and laboratory permits to prevent compliance lapses.
- Enforce ethical laboratory practices and strict confidentiality of patient and client data.
Personnel Supervision & Capacity Development:
- Supervise laboratory scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff.
- Conduct performance monitoring, competency assessments, and corrective coaching.
- Identify training needs and ensure continuous professional development of laboratory personnel.
- Enforce discipline, professionalism, and adherence to laboratory policies.
Equipment, Reagents & Inventory Management:
- Oversee procurement, maintenance, calibration, and validation of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure adequate stock levels of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
- Prevent stock-outs, expired reagents, and equipment downtime.
- Maintain accurate inventory, maintenance, and calibration records.
Client Service, Result Integrity & Turnaround Time:
- Ensure agreed turnaround times (TAT) for all laboratory tests are consistently achieved.
- Address escalated client complaints, discrepancies, or quality concerns promptly.
- Ensure proper review, validation, and authorization of laboratory results prior to release.
- Collaborate with management and customer-facing teams to improve client satisfaction.
Risk Management, Reporting & Accountability:
- Identify operational, quality, and compliance risks and proactively mitigate them.
- Prepare and submit accurate daily, weekly, and monthly laboratory reports to management.
- Ensure incident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions are fully documented.
- Take ownership of laboratory outcomes, audit findings, and corrective actions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
- Valid MLSCN practicing license
- 5–8 years laboratory experience, including supervisory/managerial responsibility
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic laboratory operations and compliance frameworks
- Experience with audits, accreditation, and quality management systems.
