Lagos Unleashes Emergency Revolution!” 10 New Ambulance Bases Set to Slash Response Times and Save Lives

In a bold move to transform emergency healthcare delivery, the Lagos State Government has launched 10 new prefabricated ambulance stations across the state—marking a major leap forward in its pre-hospital emergency care agenda.

The announcement was made by Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, during the unveiling ceremony at the LASAMBUS base in Agege. The new ambulance points are strategically located in Agege, Agbowa, Masha (Surulere), Badagry, Mile 2, Epe, Shomolu, Igando, Iba, and Ibeju-Lekki.

“These aren’t just buildings—they’re lifelines,” Ogunyemi said. “Every second counts in an emergency, and these stations bring help closer to the people.”

What Makes This a Game-Changer?

  • Faster emergency response across densely populated and underserved areas.
  • Durable, modular stations built with anti-burglar German steel and hybrid cooling systems.
  • Comfortable housing for medical personnel and secure storage for ambulances and equipment.
  • Integrated trauma care system with existing centres in Epe and Tollgate, and more underway.

Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, emphasized that this is part of a broader strategy to decentralize emergency care and build a resilient, coordinated response system.

“We’re not just adding structures—we’re scaling a system built for speed, resilience, and accessibility,” he said.

The project, executed by Hamibra Integrated Nigeria Ltd, is designed for long-term impact, with each unit expected to last over 50 years.

Real Lives, Real Impact

Mrs. Rasheedat Saka, Deputy Director of Nursing at LASAMBUS, highlighted how the new bases will cut down response times and improve readiness—rain or shine.

A touching moment came from Mr. Moshood Akintayo, a road accident survivor treated by LASAMBUS, who funded the beautification of the Agege station as a way of giving back.

“They saved my life. This is my thank you,” he said.

With this expansion, Lagos now boasts 16 LASAMBUS points, with more on the way as part of the state’s aggressive health sector reform.
