Job Purpose

Lecturer II represents the first independent diagnostic-academic rank, expected to own undergraduate courses, lead laboratory practicals, initiate research, and strengthen diagnostic capacity relevant to African disease burdens.

The purpose of this job is to independently deliver undergraduate teaching and laboratory instruction, initiate scholarly research, contribute to diagnostic innovation and community health impact, and participate in academic administration in line with NUC and MLSCN standards.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Teaching & Laboratory Leadership:

  • Independently teach assigned MLS courses (theory and laboratory).
  • Design course outlines, practicals, assessments and competency checklists compliant with C-CMAS/MLSCN. 

Supervise undergraduate projects and laboratory competencies.:

Research & Scholarship:

  • Conduct independent or collaborative research in diagnostic sciences. - Publish scholarly articles; present at conferences; contribute to funded/applied research.

Innovation & Community/Diagnostic Impact:

  • Lead or co-lead diagnostic QA/QC projects, disease surveillance studies, method validation or digital laboratory initiatives. - Support skills-lab upgrades and teaching innovation.  

Academic Service & QA:

  • Serve on departmental/school committees; support accreditation and quality assurance.
  • Uphold professional ethics, biosafety and data integrity.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Medical Laboratory Science or Senate-approved cognate (biomedical diagnostics)  
  • Current MLSCN practising licence
  • Minimum: Two (2) scholarly publications, at least one (1) in a peer-reviewed journal.

Minimum Experience Requirement:

  • At least three (3) years post-PhD or equivalent diagnostic-academic experience. Diagnostic innovations, validated methods, patents or datasets to be declared where applicable. - Active membership of recognised MLS/biomedical professional bodies (status declared).
