The Bauchi State Government has approved a landmark 100 percent salary increase for doctors and other healthcare workers across the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Muhammad Sani Dambam, disclosed the development while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Bauchi. He explained that the decision followed recommendations from a special committee tasked with assessing the financial implications of a new scheme of service for healthcare workers.
According to him, the review of the existing scheme represents one of the most significant welfare packages ever introduced in the state’s health sector. The move is designed to retain skilled medical personnel and improve healthcare delivery.
As part of the package, the government also approved peculiar allowances, including outside-posting allowances, to encourage doctors and health workers to accept and remain in postings outside metropolitan areas. Healthcare workers under the State Primary Healthcare Development Board will benefit from these allowances, ending years of disparity in welfare benefits.
Dr. Dambam further revealed that the council approved the clearance of outstanding promotion arrears for healthcare workers, with no fewer than 2,000 workers expected to benefit. In addition, access to car and housing loans has been approved to ease financial burdens and improve the quality of life for medical professionals.
This sweeping reform underscores Bauchi State’s commitment to strengthening its healthcare system and boosting the morale of frontline workers.
