National President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof. Innocent Ujah, has raised concern over the brain drain in the health sector.
He regretted that the nation’s doctors, known for their rounded training, were emigrating in droves on a daily basis, a situation he described as very disturbing and embarrassing.
The NMA president, who is in Jos for the Annual General Council (AGC) of the association, spoke yesterday at the palace of the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of Plateau State Traditional Council ahead of Thursday’s opening of the event in the Coal City.
He told the monarch that unconducive environment and poor welfare were behind the exodus. Ujah said the visit was to appeal to the traditional ruler to intervene for a lasting solution.
On medical tourism, the NMA boss, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Medical Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, said what Nigerian hospitals lacked were modern equipment.
