Two new case of a more transmissible second strain of COVID19 have been identified in the UK, the health secretary has said. Both cases identified are reported to be contacts of people who arrived from South Africa

In a swift response, immediate restrictions have been applied denying entry for people who have been in south africa or transited through south african in the previous 10 days. According to the department of transport, "The UK does not currently have a travel corridor with South Africa, and so anyone who has returned from the country recently should already be self-isolating for 10 days and should continue to do so,"

In response, a Nigerian nurse took to social media to warn on this mutated virus strain and the danger it poses against the existent strain we were already contending with. Nurse Nwankwo Nene noted that even though there is currently no evidence linking the new strain to higher mortality rates or whether the vaccines would be effective against this new strain, we must be cautious and remain vigilant

She however warned that evidence has shown a very high trasmission rate of this new strain and as such, this would result to more people falling ill as the new strains spreads more rapidly than other previously known strain of COVID19. Nigerians must protect themselves, their loved ones & those around them. All should #TakeResponsibility and #CelebrateResponsibly this yuletide season by: Wearing a face mask, Observing physical distancing and Washing our hands frequently, she added
