Nursingworld Nigeria World Restart A Heart Day 2021 With Megalectrics Staff Portharcourt

Cardiac arrests have not stopped during the coronavirus pandemic. If you have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Nigeria you honestly have less than a one in ten chance of surviving.

At Nursingworld Nigeria we want to change that by making sure that as many people as possible know that when someone collapses and stops breathing normally, it is important to quickly call the hospital, perform hands-only CPR, use a defibrillator if one is available and quickly transport the victim to a healthcare facility. This gives mums, dads, sons, daughters and friends the best chance of surviving.

Hands-only CPR reduces your risk of catching an infection, and without intervention it’s unlikely the person in cardiac arrest will survive.

This is why every year in October we join hands with trainers around the world in celebrating CPRDAY and world restart a heart.

What is Restart a Heart Day?

Restart a Heart Day is an annual training event on October 16th relating to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillator use or first aid surrounding heart attacks.

The aim of Restart a Heart Day is to bring awareness, education and training to the general public in order to increase the likelihood of lives being saved in the event of a heart attack, as the early moments of a heart attack are critical and a trained person on the scene can make the critical difference. Education and training are offered to the general public free of charge teaching them how to perform CPR and what to do in the event of a heart attack.

Nursingworld Nigeria(NWN) celebrated the World Restart A Heart Day #CPRDay on Friday the 29th of October 2021 with the Megalectrics Team made up of staff of @classicfm911 @thebeat999fm & @naija927fm #portharcourt.

We trained a total of 20 persons

The training was done using CPR dummies, and participants were shown how to act in a heart emergency, how to act safely and what the resuscitation process is, before being allowed to attempt the actions of the resuscitation process themselves.

Station Director of Megalectrics Mr Chris Olibowo while thanking Nursingworld Nigeria for giving the training said the following "Its a great opportunity, because Nursingworld Nigeria they usually have these free trainings every year on the 16th of October to celebrate the World CPR Day (Restart A Heart). I think its a great opportunity and i think every establishment, they should have people who are trained in CPR and Basic First Aid, the Government, Organizations, Parastatals, the Security Agencies, the Paramilitary, and I do believe most police officers should know basic CPR.

We were also interviewed and had free airtime to explain to listeners on the importance of CPR and First Aid, and there are plans to partner with megalectrics on moving round the state and offering classes to schools and places that would need our trainings next year.

The next Restart a Heart Day will take place on 16 October 2022 and we as an organization are definitely looking forward to it.
