The Ogun State Government on Monday said it had opened the first coronavirus mobile laboratory in the country. The government said it was part of the efforts to flatten the spread of the ravaging coronavirus virus in the state.
The inauguration of the laboratory was held on the premises of the 250-bedded Mitros Hospital, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the laboratory was another game changer in the management of the pandemic in the country.
She said, “Our partners are here and they are committed to ensuring that we are able to quickly identify anybody who has the disease in the state and help us to flatten the curve and manage the cases that we have.”
The deputy governor added that Governor Dapo Abiodun had said it was important for the people of the state to follow the procedures that had been given about isolation, staying at home and wearing of face mask.
She said, “We are still working hard, so that when these cases occur, we are on ground to make sure we are protected in the state.” According to her, the laboratory had met all the conditions of the National Centre for Disease Control.
She added that testing around the state had commenced, while stakeholders in council area would be used to sensitise the people to come for the test.
