Job Title: Regional Coordinator
Location: Akwa Ibom, Benue, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, and Taraba
Overview
- iCARE Plus Clinical Research Center (CRC) is funded by the United States National institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct interventional trials over 5 years with outcomes across the HIV care continuum in youth aged 15-24, including key populations, through new Clinical Research Performance Sites (CRPSs) in HIV “hotspots” across Nigeria’s six geopolitically distinct zones.
- iCARE Plus CRC seeks to recruit two (2) Regional Coordinators. The Northern Regional Coordinator and Southern Regional Coordinator will provide technical coordination for implementation and monitoring of research activities, encompassing innovative interventions for HIV testing and treatment in youth and priority key populations in the north and south CRPSs, respectively.
- The Regional Coordinator-North will serve CRPSs in Kano, Benue, and Taraba states, while the Regional Coordinator-South will serve CRPSs in Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and Lagos states.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical coordination for implementation and monitoring of the research protocol at all CRPSs.
- Review all data systems regularly, including REDCap hosted at Northwestern University, to ensure data are collected, entered, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Review data collected, stored, and/or submitted to the data systems regularly to check for errors and ensure corrections are completed.
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance procedures at each site per the study procedures manual.
- Facilitate and ensure compliance with local, national, and NIH research regulatory requirements.
- Support program efforts by providing guidance and hands-on support for training research program staff, as needed.
- Facilitate local monitoring activities with representatives from the NIH or the NIH-designated contractor, including being on-site as may be necessary, to ensure site readiness and successful outcomes.
- Build relationships with relevant local institutions and entities to advance the aims of iCARE Plus.
- Facilitate, draft, and participate in the development of technical reports, such as: monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports and newsletters; strategic plans and work plans; and other ad hoc reports, as required.
- Stay abreast of developments in quality assurance methods related to clinical research implementation and social service system strengthening, and share relevant information as appropriate.
- This role will require substantial travel to project sites for technical assistance, training, and supervision.
- Interact as needed with groups and communities representative of the populations included in the iCARE Plus project, including youths living with HIV and key populations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Report to the National Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Master's Degree in Social Sciences or Public Health with a clear focus on HIV and gender or adolescents’ health issues. A doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant field would be an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a similar position, preferably in HIV or adolescents’ health issues.
- Strong training, mentoring, coaching, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Experience working with key populations including young MSM preferred.
- Candidates must be living in or show evidence of having worked in any of the geopolitical zones covered by the position being applied for.
- A good working knowledge of Hausa would be an advantage for the Regional Coordinator-North.
