Job Title: School Nurse

Location: Oregun - Ikeja, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

 

Job Summary

  • The goal of the School Nurse is to treat student injuries or illnesses and advise pupils, their parents or guardians, and staff on health issues.
  • Apart from injuries and sudden ailments, school nurses may also support pupils with illness by administering medication to them.
  • They also advocate for the physical, emotional, mental, and social health of pupils/staff.
  • The School Nurse is responsible for identifying both actual and potential health problems and providing case management services. He/she shall provide expertise and oversight of school health services and to promote health education.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to pupils and staff during school hours.
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor treatment plans for students with health needs.
  • Conduct routine health screenings such as vision, hearing, and growth assessments.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential health records and immunization documentation for all pupils.
  • Educate pupils and staff on hygiene, nutrition, and general wellness practices.
  • Implement infection prevention and control measures across the school.
  • Liaise with parents and healthcare providers regarding student medical issues and updates.
  • Ensure the school sick bay is clean, stocked, and appropriately equipped.
  • Oversee the hygienic condition of school meals, ensuring safe preparation, handling, and serving.
  • Support the development and enforcement of school health and safety policies.
  • Undertake other duties as directed.

 

Job Requirements

Person’s Specification:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and RN license
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in a good school.

 

Job Competence:

  • Knowledge of many areas of health including mental health
  • Knowledge of school laws and policies
  • Ability to work independently or with others
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to assess situations and act quickly
  • Knowledge of state health regulations
  • Ability to multitask
  • Basic Knowledge of Computer.
