We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Science Laboratory Technologist

Location: Epe, Lagos

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • Prepare the Laboratory and equipment before practical classes and assist teachers and students during practical sessions.
  • Maintain a record of chemicals and ensure safe keeping of chemicals in an appropriate way.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with experiments by logging details and setting up lab equipment, such as specialized microscopes and electronic hematology differential cell counters. Prior to beginning the experiment, they may also need to clean and calibrate equipment, measure compounds and prepare solutions for use
  • Responsible for recording experiment results and disposing of hazardous waste
  • Plan, set up and undertake controlled experiments and trials
  • Prepare solutions, stains, and media for use in the laboratory
  • Maintain a safe chemical storage/handling/disposal system in accordance with school policies procedures
  • Assist with security of science laboratory and equipment
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and annual stocktaking
  • Keep a record of the consumables used regularly and maintain adequate supplies
  • Assist with labelling, storage, stocktaking and ordering of equipment and chemicals
  • Service and clean laboratory apparatus/equipment
  • Develop maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment and organize maintenance where required
  • Report damages to equipment and arrange repairs
  • Liaise with science teachers on schedules for practical work and maintain an efficient system of use and allocation of materials and equipment, setting a priority system where necessary
  • Check set-ups and coach students through proper techniques as necessary
  • Be alert for potentially unsafe behavior, practices, set-ups, and situations, and correct them; or bring them to the attention of the teacher as required
  • Enforce proper use of safety goggles, proper handling of chemical spills, proper handling of broken glassware, proper collection of chemical waste for disposal, and proper disposal of non-hazardous laboratory waste
  • Replace supplies such as weighing paper, filter paper, boiling chips, cotton, litmus, and acetone, as required
  • Assisting in the preparation of upcoming laboratory periods: fill reagent bottles and vials, prepare simple reagents
  • Assist with the procurement of chemicals, reagents, apparatus and equipment
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the HOD, Science.

  • Condition of Laboratory equipment and apparatus
  • Cleanliness of the Laboratory
  • Quality of procured chemicals, apparatus and equipment
  • Accuracy of data and records.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Competencies

Education and Work Experience:

  • First Degree in Laboratory Technology or related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience.
