Graduates of Rawafid International College of Health Technology, Dutse, Jigawa State, have cried out over non-issuance of operating licence by National Council of Colleges of Nursing and Lab Students of Nigeria.
At a news briefing in Dutse, the students, numbering over 70, called on the Jigawa State Ministry of Health and Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria to quickly intervene and investigate the management of Rawafid College over the non-issuance of operating licences after their graduation three years ago, as well as the N5.4 million they paid for induction, licence and other expenses.
The aggrieved students made the call through the Students Union Government (SUG) President, Idris Abdullatif.
The SUG president said: “We have protested against our school authorities’ nonchalant attitude and insensitivity to our plight, withholding our operating licences.”
Abdullatif noted that the school sent them to Zaria, Kaduna State, for induction, instead of Dutse.
According to him, on getting to Zaria, they were neither inducted nor given licence. On inquiry, they were told that their fees were not remitted to the school’s account by the Provost of Rawafid College.
But the Provost, Dr Mustapha Al’amin, pleaded with the graduating students for the lapses, saying it was not deliberate, but due to a minor hitch that occurred between the school’s management and the National Medical Council due to communication gap.
He added, however, that the issue had been resolved, assuring the graduating students that they would have their induction and licence by the first week of January 2024.
