Abia State governor has expressed delight that the training of the first batch of Medical Interns have successfully been completed at the Amachara General Hospital in Umuahia South Council and thus created room for the admission of another batch.

 

The governor who spoke at the formal commissioning of four projects completed by his administration at the Amachara Hospital annex of the Abia State Specialist and Diagnostic Centre, said he was moved to replicate what he saw during one of his trips to the United States (US) where major medical facilities were located in one place.

 The completed projects were the Administrative block, hundred bedded ward that houses officer's hostel, one hundred bedded ward that houses an Intensive Care Unit, a Cardiac Centre and a Modern Laboratory and an Accident and Emergency department with ambulance.

 The governor who reiterated that his resolve was to elongate the lives of Abians, added that the number of primary health care centers his administration has so far put in place and or expanded across the state has increased from 250 to 710.

 

According to him, his government has additionally successfully built 100 bed hospital in nine Local Government Area (LGAs) of the state and intends to replicate them in all the 17 LGAs to enhance health care delivery to the people.

 The state Health Commissioner, Dr. Okechukwu Ogah, who said that the hospital hopes to pursue postgraduate residency training programme in general and family medicine in he near future, added that the government had approved the recruitment of specialists and other healthcare workers to ensure the realization of this programme.
