ZARIA - Medical doctors under the platform of Association of Resident Doctors, ARDS, at the Ahmadu Bellow University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH, Shika, Zaria, yesterday embarked on an indefinite strike action over alleged non payment of salaries and other entitlement.
The development led to the evacuation of patients on admission, by their relation and families.
A statement by the union, tagged, Why doctors are on strike, "explained that, "doctors in the hospital have been selectively paid percentages of their legitimate salaries since January, 2015 but from our findings, the Federal Government has adequately cash-backed ABUTH Zaria to pay doctors salaries in full."
The union's President, Dr. Tuko Moses Tari, who spoke with reporters later told reporter that, reporters later told reporters that, "other federal teaching hospital, Sokoto, Jos Kano Katsina, National Hospital, Bodan, Lagos, Gombe and Enugu, have all paid their doctors in full.
"In the midst of this problem, 44 resident doctors were illegally sacked by the management of our hospital and they refused to reinstate them despite assurances and proven illegality.
'Today, June 1, 2015 culminated the high point over a year period of intensed deliberation, discussion and negotiation with the extention, the Federal
Government of some burning issues that affect the welfare and training and quality of service delivery in the hospital in Zaira.
"The doctors agreed on Sunday that unless the Federal Government wades into their problems and the management addresses their grievances, they will not return to work.
