Again, Nigerian Doctors Turn Their Backs on Patients! BY Jennifer melue

At a time hospitals in some parts of the country are brimming with casualties from incessant insurgent attacks, doctors have turned their back on patients nationwide as they commenced an indefinite strike yesterday.

You would recall that earlier in February, Nurses in all government hospitals went on strike but made considerations for hospitals in Borno which were exempted from the industrial action on account of disruptions in service delivery there due to insurgency and the security challenges. The NMA cared less!

The Nigerian Medical Association had, earlier in June, given the Federal government a 14-day ultimatum to address its litany of demands which include the appointment of doctors as Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC) in the nation’s tertiary hospitals and asking the government not to appoint non doctors as consultants.
NMA had earlier in June submitted a 21-point demand to the secretary of the government with a resolve not to call off the strike unless their demands were met.

How much blood is the NMA willing to shed?
Our many more lives must be lost?
Only time would tell
