Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has tasked stakeholders responsible for providing health care services in the country on the need to ensure availability and accessibility of their services in a way to promote good health among the populace.
She gave the charge yesterday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at the South-West free health screening programme for women, under her pet project, Future Assured Initiative. She described women’s health as not only a gender issue, but a major developmental one, stating that the programme is aimed at promoting health and well-being of women and children.
Present at the event where 2,500 women across the 33 local government areas of the state were screened for hypertension, diabetes, cervical cancer and breast cancer are; wives of governors of Osun, Lagos, Ogun and Edo, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Mrs Paullen Tallen, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi and Senator Monsurat Sunmonu. According to the First Lady, the initiative was part of her efforts in complementing government’s efforts in providing health care services to the citizens. She said: “I called on stakeholders responsible for providing health care services to ensure availability and accessibility of these services. Let me at this point called on the entire citizens of this country to be proactive in seeking medical attention by visiting our health facilities.
“The health of women is not just a gender issue; rather it is a major developmental issue.” Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, said the initiative of the president’s wife would further propel his administration’s efforts in doing more for the people. He said the gesture would not only benefit the beneficiaries, but millions of the people in the state.
