Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode, has praised nurses in the state's health sector for doing their best towards excellent healthcare delivery.
The First Lady; who gave the commendation at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Lagos State Nurses Annual Scientific Conference, held in Ikeja, said the nurses were undoubtedly among the best in the country, and had consistently distinguished themselves in professional practice over the years .
According to her, "our nurses have dared to be different in all areas of professional practice, through diligent application of themselves to work; rare demonstration of endurance and strict observance to ethics". Noting that the nursing profession was essentially humanitarian, she said "many a time I wonder what' would happen to the entire human race, if there Are no nurses or the nursing profession.
Think about the general health care system; ante-natal and baby delivery: post-natal management; rescue and emergencies; Red Cross and Crescent activities in war-torn countries; and many more.
How can anyone question the relevance of nurses?" she queried.
She further commended the nursing association for incorporating critical com ponents like HIV screening, prevention of blindness and free malaria treatment, into the conference agenda, adding that such previous screening exercises had assisted in early detection of disease conditions that ~ere eventually cured.
Earlier in his address, the chairman house committee on health, Hon. Segun Olulade, noted that the relevance of nurses in ameliorating economic turbulence affecting health care delivery was very crucial to the administration'of Governor Akinwuhmi Ambode, the house of 'Assembly and the committee on health in particular.
