The Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex ile-ife chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors have threatened not to accept laboratory results that were not conducted and /or certified by pathologists.
In a memo dated 4th March 2016 addressed to the CMD OAUTHC Ile-ife, the resident doctors decried the repeated assault of their colleagues in the departments of laboratory medicine
The association noted with dismay, the repeated assault on our members in the departments of laboratory medicine and diruption of their legitimate duties by some non-medical staff in the laboratories of the hospital. This according to them has been happening even without any provocation from thier deligent members
The Memo continues: we want to unequivocally say that, though as medical doctors, we are peace loving members of this community, we will not tolerate any flagrant display of absurdity and violence from any members of staff towards our members
We entirely, condemn this barbaric act and request that the hospital managemtn should immediately set up a panel to investigate this unbecoming act and the culprits should be sanctioned. We also wish to state that we may have to eventually ask our members in laboratories to withdraw thier services if their lives and seamless discharge of their duties and training program are not guaranteed by the hospital management.
sir, we may not accept laboratory results that were not conducted and/ or certified by pathologist if this ugly trend is not addressed.
Sir, we are sure that you are aware of this ripple effects this will have on other departments of this hospital and patients care. An injury to one is an injury to all.
The association urged the managment to treat this as a matter of urgency to forestall breakdown of law and order in this hospital warning that ARD members will not hesistate in withdrawing thier services if this ugly trend is allowed to continue.
It was signed by Dr Wole Ayegbuis, the ARD chapter president
