Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) Exploring Private Sector Participation Initiative - A Step towards Universal Health Coverage

Posted on: Thu 24-10-2019

As part of her contribution to project Nigeria in healthcare financing towards Universal Health Coverage, the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) is exploring collaborations and partner-ships in the private sector through its Private Sector Partnership Initiative (PSPI).

At an extraordinary business round table held in Enugu on July 17th, 2019, medical equipment companies held bilateral talks with the leadership of the AGPMPN to review and deemphasize the syndrome of cash and carry in the purchase of expensive medical equipment in the country as a first step in this direction

Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria

That meeting was rescheduled to and concluded with a historic memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, 28/8/2019 in Lagos in the presence of the president of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Francis Faduliye. In curbing the distressing cash and carry payment model, we sort the establishment of a bilaterally friendly payment concept in lease purchase in line with global best practice.

The cardinal objective of this move is to engender trust at all levels, build technological capacity in hospitals, improve quality and standard of care, restore national trust and acceptance of our local content, make healthcare available and accessible to more Nigerians, improve our healthcare indices and reverse medical tourism destination from Nigeria to Nigeria.

Accordingly, we call on hospital owners across the country especially our members to avail themselves of this privileged opportunity of formalizing lease purchase predicated on mutually negotiated payment plan institutionally guar-anteed by the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

This great project is starting with the following select companies which have shown faith in the Nigerian dream of attaining Universal Health Coverage through inclusive healthcare financing in the overall interest of Nigerians.
