The Association of Resident Doctors, University College Hospital suspends her 105 day old strike to resume 8am Monday 17th August, 2015 while negotiations continue. This followed the intervention and commitment of His Excellency, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, Medical Elders at the University College Hospital, Ibadan and The President-General and the Immediate past President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes.
This decision was reached at the Congress of the Association that held on the 14th August, 2015. The Congress started at about 5pm and ended at about 9pm the same day. Our dear members are hereby directed by the decision of the ARD UCH congress to resume back to their duty posts by 8am Monday 17th August, 2015.
It should be noted that the just suspended industrial action started as a result of the volte face of the Hospital management on the directive of the Federal Government through the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation on the implementation of adjustment of grade level as being implemented for other health workers amongst other lingering local issues. While we appreciate the support of our members, the hospital community and all well-meaning Nigerians during the industrial action, we also wish to appreciate the criticisms of those who do not see these injustices through our spectacle.
We reemphasize the legitimacy of our demands but in the interest of the entire Nigerian people, ARD UCH has decided to shift the ultimate ground to suspend the strike while we hope the Management of the UCH retrace her steps and shelve her ego trip.
We wish to appeal to the members of the public who are the victims of many of these seemingly recurrent impasse in the health sector mainly due to indiscretion of the Management of some hospitals especially as it is in the case of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Much Obliged,
Segun Olaopa,
Publicity Secretary.
