The National President, Surgical/Medical Laboratory Allied and Scientific Equipment Dealers and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (SMASEDMAN), Nze Nwokeafor Ikechukwu Worthyman, has called on government to liaise with the association to encourage the use of locally manufactured medical equipment.

Ikechukwu made the call during the national executive council meeting of the association in Abuja yesterday.

He charged the ministries to partner with the association to ensure quality equipment delivery and supply in the country.

Nze Nwokeafor stressed the need for financial institutions to assist the organization on loan facilities and other financial aides to enable the association achieve its objectives.

He lamented that all medical, science and allied equipment used in Nigeria are imported. According to him, encouraging local production and manufacturing of such equipment would create employment, increase foreign exchange and per capita income, reduce crime rate as well as boost the economy.

He called on the Senate and House committee chairmen and the affected ministries to ensure that budgetary allocations of the respective ministries are properly monitored to enhance speedy development in this critical area of the economy.

The National Secretary of the Association, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, advised members to play the game according to the rules, saying any member found wanting would face the appropriate penalties. He said all hands must be on deck to support President Buhari’s anti-graft campaign.
