The Bauchi State government has said that it would establish a health insurance agency to enhance access to quality health care services by residents.
Governor Mohammed Abubakar said a bill for the setting up of the agency is underway. He said this at a workshop for state government officials.
He added that the agency would implement the state formal sector health insurance programme, which is expected to provide healthcare cover to all civil servants, their spouses and children. The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser, Special Duties, said his administration made a provision of N300 million in the reviewed 2015 budget for the payment of backlog of its unpaid counterpart funds for the NHIS-MDG/MCH programme. Also speaking, Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Health, Pharmacist Ibrahim Bello, who was represented by Yunusa Ahmed, pledged their support for the project.
