The Federal Ministry of Health has urged its staff to remain alert against the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.
The appeal came during a training organized for staff of the ministry in Abuja recently.
Declaring the meeting open, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Linus Awute, urged the workers not to rest yet on their oars, as according to him, high standard of personal and environmental hygiene are still required among other relevant measures to sustain the nation’s victory over the virus.
Awute said further that the ministry had made tremendous effort in containing the virus which he emphasized would have ravaged the country if allowed to spread as obtains in other West African countries like Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone that still battle with virus.
He described the staff as partners in health well being of the nation and encouraged them to keep-up the good fight “as good ambassadors and staff of the frontline ministry in the Ebola war by demonstrating high degree of personal hygiene.”
In his remark, National Coordinator, Nigerian Center for Disease Control, Professor, Abdulsalam Nasidi, emphasized that the role of President Goodluck Jonathan and the collaboration of leaders and the entire nation’s citizenry culminated in the success Nigeria is currently celebrating.
He also noted that Nigeria had an effective health system that did not allow the virus to transmit from the rural to urban areas and communities as was the case in other affected West African countries.
