Posted on: Mon 10-10-2016

The strength of a healthcare system, in addition to physical infrastructure, depends on the skills, competencies, values and availability of its workforce. Professionalism has emerged as a core competency for healthcare professionals. The clinical laboratory workforce plays a vital role in healthcare service delivery and has been recognized as one of the key components for healthcare system strengthening that would impact and improve the well-being of the community.

The role of Medical Lab Technicians and Assistants as middle level manpower personnel in the laboratory is critical in the quality management system for proper diagnosis and interpretation of results. It therefore becomes imperative for Medical Laboratory Technicians/Assistants to be competent in the application of knowledge, skill and behaviour in performing specific job tasks. This will provide the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to meet requirements of good laboratory practice.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is critical to future successes on-the- job performance. It is on this basis that this 3-day MLSCN approved CPD workshop is being organized for practicing Medical Laboratory Technicians and Assistants in Federal, State, Private and Public sectors.

Mrs. Dahunsi Olufunmilayo Rhoda, of the University health services, Federal University, Lokoja is the liaison officer and one of the coordinators of the workshop.
