Council Tasks Laboratory Facilities on Quality Management

The Registrar, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Prof Anthony O. Emeribe has advised all medical laboratory diagnostic facilities in the country to key into the council’s national External Quality Assurance (EQA) scheme. The scheme is derived from the Quality Management System which is geared towards improving the quality of service medical laboratory scientists render to patients.
 
He made the call in Abuja during the EQA scheme implementation workshop organized by the council in collaboration with PineCrest Healthcare Limited and BioRad Laboratories.
 
Emeribe said: “Nigerian laboratory scientists can produce results of international standards if they key into the quality management system, it is because most of them are not doing so, that is why when we send a test sample to five laboratories and we different results.
 
When they take advantage of this scheme, we can be sure that their results will be genuine, and reliable to enable the doctors give the best care to the patient.”
 
He said the council would commence medical laboratory mop operations across all the states of the country starting with Lagos State this week, adding that the council has six teams that would go there to ensure that all the laboratories meet the minimum requirement for approval while those who did not meet the standard would have their premises sealed and prosecuted.
