The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has urged stakeholders to support laboratories in the country that are seeking national accreditation.

Acting Registrar of the council, Mr Tosan Erhabor, made the call yesterday while receiving two units of microscopes donated to the council by Partec Healthcare Limited, a Sysmex Company, in Abuja.

He said the support would boost the country’s health care delivery, reduce infant mortality and improve maternal health through quality medical laboratory services which will ultimately lead to the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UCH).

Erhabor said laboratory accreditation is to strengthening laboratory services to position the laboratories to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other emerging and reemerging diseases.

Mr Bitrus Badung, Manager Operations, Sysmex - Partec in Nigeria, said the donation was made with the belief that it would help reposition the EQA laboratory at the council’s headquarters to advance laboratory quality assessment, healthcare and training.
