Medical activi­ties at Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Ogha­ra, has been grounded fol­lowing strike by resident doctors over non-imple­mentation of Consolidat­ed Medical Salary Scale, CONMESS, by the state government.

 

The doctors also cited long delay in payment of re­fund for updates, outstation postings and examination sponsorship arrears as some other reasons for embarking on the strike.

 

President of Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, in the institution, Dr. Okocha Innocent; Secretary Gen­eral, Dr. Omovigho Agbele and Public Relations Officer, PRO, Dr. Orhewere Ejiro, in a statement yesterday con­firmed the development.

 

 

Aside issues of CON­MESS and accumulated posting and examination sponsorship arrears, the doc­tors also bemoaned delayed advancement and imple­mentation of Senior Regis­trars one (SR1) salary and arrears after qualifying and functioning in that capacity for more than three years.

 

They noted that the asso­ciation notified DELSUTH management of the impend­ing strike over eight months ago, adding that they had shown enough understand­ing and magnanimity by deferring it three times in the past due to intervention of well meaning Deltans, Ni­gerian Medical Association, NMA and National Associa­tion of Resident Doctors
