Dentist Harps On Health Insurance

The Principal Dentist, SS Dental Clinic, Victoria Island, Lagos, Dr. Iyabo Sadare, has said that increased access to health insurance, will reduce the burden of oral disease among Nigerians.

Sadare stated this at a seminar entitled, “My Business Nigeria” organised by Business Day in Lagos.

She explained that more Nigerians would seek dental care if they do not have to pay their bills out-of-pocket.

According to her, many Nigerians with dental problems are scared of going to the hospital because of the financial implication.

Sadare said, “Any individual or family that does not have health insurance should endeavour to buy one, particularly the ones that have dental insurance.

“When you have an health insurance, the organisation will pay on behalf of the individual and he/she will pay a little premium if the dental procedure you need is advanced. This helps because instead of paying an outrageous price, you pay very little.”

The dentist, however, warned Nigerians to familiarise themselves with the provisions in any health insurance before they enrol.

According to her, not all companies offering such services cover dental care.

She, therefore, urged individuals and families to seek regular dental check up, at least, twice a year to prevent tooth decay and loss.
