Doctors’ Strike Paralyses Activities at ATBU – Jibrin

Bauchi, June 22, 2015 (NAN) The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Yusuf Jibrin, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH) , Bauchi, says the strike by doctors has adversely affected provision of healthcare services by the institution.

Jibrin made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.

He said that the hospital had been forced to render skeletal services since the two-week strike embarked on by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD).

The CMD explained that only house officers and consultants in the hospital had been providing medical services to patients on emergency.

``The resident doctors are in the majority, so lots of services have been affected.

``Since the strike started, we have been attending to only emergency cases as only house officers and consultants are there to provide services to patients,’’ he said.

Jibrin said that dialogue had reached advanced stage between the hospital management and the striking doctors to call off the strike in order to put an end to the suffering of the people.

The President of ARD in Bauchi, Dr Suleiman Biodun, however, dismissed the claim by the CMD that there was any agreement with the doctors to call off the strike.

Biodun told NAN in an interview that the doctors would not resume work until their demands are met by the hospital management. (NAN)
