Doctors Urge JOHESU to End Strike

Doctors in Gombe have appealed to striking health workers under the auspices of the Joint Health Sector Unions to end their weeks-old industrial action in the public’s interest, though doctors themselves remain at work.

Dr. Adamu Danladi Bojude of  the Nigerian Medical Association in Gombe,  said, “we cannot assure the public of full services but we can render some services, as you can see here at the state specialist hospital we have patients in the General Out Patients Department (GOPD), in the MOPD and in all the clinics and this is what is also obtainable in all the hospitals in Gombe.”

“We hope that our colleagues in the hospitals will join us to continue working as a team. We also hope that the government will look into their case with a hope of finding a lasting solution to it, so that we will continue to serve the people of Gombe State,” he added.

He said this appeal becomes paramount due to the fact that hospitals in Gombe need to be working fully in order to accommodate patients coming from the neighbouring states that have been having cases of Boko  Haram attacks.

“We are working together with some non-governmental organisations to give medical services to our patients. We have up to about 70 patients currently receiving medical attention in hospitals,” Bojude noted.

The association in Gombe is worried that patients have stayed away from hospitals on account of the strike and on assumption that doctors themselves are on strike.
