Donor agencies have promised continuous partnership with Cross River State government in the bid to halt maternal and child mortality in the state. World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), among others, made the promise during the launching of the Maternal Child Emergency Centre  and Dinner Award by the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in Calabar.

 

WHO State coordinator, Mr. Raymond Raji, who commended the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Beta Edu for her passion for mother and child healthcare, said the  launching was important. “WHO believes in accountability. We will continue to partner with Cross River State until every woman and child is safe,” he said.

 

The South-south Regional Head, UNICEF, Mr. Ibrahim Contel, also reiterated their commitment to work with the Primary Healthcare Agency for proper healthcare delivery to mother and child. While inaugurating local government health authorities across the 18 local governments to coordinate activities of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC), the State 

 

Governor, Senator Ben Ayade, represented by Deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Esu, said health workers would be held accountable for every death in any Primary Healthcare  Centre or community.
