Noting that his joy knew no bounds, Dr. Akinniyi Fadipe, who is a Medical Officer at the First Consultant Medical Centre, Lagos, “I am one of the 2014 Ebola survivors in Nigeria. I am very happy that I have a baby just like any other person, but I’m more excited because this is a development that came after a very dreadful period of Ebola.”
Fadipe who dismissed speculations and initial medical concerns about his own health status as a survivor, as well as the health and immune status of his baby and wife, Modupe, however thanked God that everything has turned out fine. “The samples were sent to the Redeem laboratory and everything has been fine. Now we can beat our chest that we should be scared of nothing after Ebola virus especially our spouses and the babies we are going to give birth to. God has already given me one child before, but I now have another one.”
The lesson I’m taking away is that God is all sufficient because I understand that apart from the issue of giving birth, there are other complication that could have come as a result of the Ebola virus, but we suffered none of these.
“Things like visual, hearing, testicular problems are all common to Ebola survivors, and the virus at a time was known to be in the semen.
“Immediately after I was discharged, I was doing tests that involved blood samples and the semen, so it got to a time everything was negative. So I’m absolutely free from Ebola and back to normal, no joint pain, no squalae, no eye problem, no hair loss. I’m grateful to God”.
