The Ebonyi State Nigerian Optometric Association marked the 2015 World Sight Day with a series of activities which included.

 

-Courtesy call on the Hon. Commissioner for Health, Ebonyi State, Dr.Umezurike by Ebonyi NOA. The association commended the state government for its developmental strides and also appreciated its constant absorbing of NYSC Optometrists in the state, which the chapter had been closely following and making a case for(At the moment there over 30 Optometrists corp membersin Ebonyi state). NOA Ebonyi expressed displeasure that the Ebonyi State civil service has only two Optometrists in full employment and called for employment of more Optometrists to help in catering for the overwhelming eye care needs of the state. It also called for the beefing up of the primary health centres across the state. 

 

The Commissioner expressed delight at the visit and reassured NOA that state government will equip health centres and employ new personnel, for which Optometrists will be included. The chapter also presented complimentary WSD branded Tshirts to the commissioner and permanent secretary.

 

-Joining forces with the Ophthalmology Department of Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki to conduct Free Eye Screening at the hospital premises; which was announced in various churches.

 

-Advocay visit, health talk( on the Importance of Eye care and free eye screening by NOA at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Unity FM, Abakaliki. FREE DRUGS and EYE HEALTH EDUCATION were given.

 

-News analysis on World Sight Day on FRCN Unity FM,written by Dr.Okey Egboluche, was sponsored by Ebonyi NOA. It was aired after all the news bulletins for the day in the English and Igbo segments.(Find the attachment)

 

-Participation on a live phone in programme(pidgein English) on Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Salt FM, in which DR. Ikenna Okoh was the guest. Issues pertaining to avoidable blindness were discussed.

 

-Live phone in  programme on Unity FM, Dr.Eziuloh Ajuruchukwu was the guest.
