The Honourable Minister of State, Health, Dr. Ehanire was treated to a grand reception recently by His Royal Highness, Alhaji Haliru Momoh, the Ikelebe 111, (Otaru of Auchi kingdom) at his palace in recognition of the Minister’s contribution in installing the government of President
Buhari in the country.
In his address, the monarch commended President Buhari for appreciating the sterling qualities in Dr. Ehanire by appointing him to work in his cabinet as Minister of State for Health.
The Otaru of Auchi Kingdom however lamented the dilapidating sight of the General Hospital, Auchi, which he described as a dead end because there were neither Doctors nor Nurses in the hospital. He then appealed to the FG to consider resuscitating all hospitals in Edo North which he revealed were in very bad conditions.
In his response, the Minister informed that the FG was ready to synergise and collaborate with states, Local governments and all stake holders in the health sector so as to revive the health system. In view of this, he maintained that no Primary, Secondary or tertiary hospital in Edo North would be neglected.
The Minister then disclosed that there would soon be a meeting of all Commissioners of health to disclose deteriorating state of health care service in the country and the way forward.
Earlier at a courtesy call on His Royal Highness, crown Prince (AMB.) Eheneden Erediauwa (Ediaken N’uselu), heir apparent to Benin throne, the Minister harped on the need to maintain close relationship with neighbouring
kings to foster better unity and tolerance amongst the communities.
At the coronation ceremony of the 20th Olu of Warri, Prince Ikenwoli Gbemisi Emiko, recently at Ijala, the ancestral home of the Itsekiris.
Dr. Osagie Ehanire encouraged the crown Prince to ensure unity among his people as this will position the citizens for meaningful economic development of Delta state.
The Minister who was part of the federal government’s delegation to the occasion emphasised on the need for monarchs to maintain social norms/values and creation of political awareness among his subjects.
In his speech from the throne, the Olu of Warri pledged to pursue ideas/ideals for the benefit of the Itsekiris just as they pledge their loyalty and affection to him as their King. He appealed to the Itsekiris to build bridges across real and imagined ethnic divide in order to foster peaceful co-existence guided by the spirit of enlightened self interest.
The crown Prince however decried lack of basic infrastructures and chronic state of roads in the state. In his words,’ looking at the state of roads in the state this reveals the profile of a people in distress ’.
He further called on the FG to fully implement the principle of derivation in the management of the nation’s natural wealth where the Nigerian constitution should guarantee that each LGA which represent where natural resources are derived should collect a specified share of the natural resources accruable directly as revenue to each state.
