Fake Foreign Doctor On The Run – Police

Posted on: Mon 10-08-2015

Security agents are on the trail of a Pakistani national who illegally worked as a medical doctor and bailed to evade arrest last Thursday.

Najeeb Ur-Rahaman Abro was working as an ophthalmologist at Madina Specialist Eye Centre and Diagnostics in Gombe without a proper practise licence from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, which regulates all doctors in the country. He evaded arrest last week because Gombe state health ministry officials informed him beforehand, an official of the council said.

“The Pakistani doctor hid himself because he got wind [the MDCN’s inspectorate] was in town suspiciously from the state ministry of health,” said Dr
Henry Okwuokenye, head of the inspectorate.

“We have last year advised him that his qualifications are not registrable in Nigeria by the MDCN. He deliberately violated this and proceeded to practise.”
Auwal Abare, proprietor of the hospital, said the hospital would work to meet all requirements, including meeting an order to discuss Abro.

But police and state security services will continue trailing him and apprehend him violating Nigerian law, the councilsaid.
