The Federal Capital Territory Pharmaceutical Inspection Committee (FCTPIC) has closed 13 illegal medicine shops located at Durumi, Lugbe, Gwarinpa, Kubwa and Gwagwa communities in Abuja.
FCTA’s Director Pharmaceutical Services and Chairperson of the committee, Hauwa Kulu Ibrahim, who warned that the exercise is ongoing round the capital city, said the shops were closed because they were not registered with the Pharmacetical Council of Nigeria.
She alleged that some were selling prescribed medicines, administering injections to patients, having poor storage facilities for drugs, refused to locate from market areas and operating under poor sanitary conditions. The chairperson also informed that those prospective patent medicine vendors were expected to apply for inspection, obtain approval for registration and conclude the process of registration for such shops before business can commence.
She said the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Dealers is not a regulatory agency and advised registered vendors to renew their licenses on or before March 31 every year as well as ensure strict compliance with the approved patent medicine list.
