The Federal Government has set up a committee to rebrand, refocus and re-engineer alternative medicine practices and technologies in the country.
Speaking in Abuja while inaugurating the committee, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Abdu Bulama, said its terms of reference include the establishment of natural medicine college and development of curriculum on natural medicine.
He also said the committee is charged with the responsibilities of giving advice and direction on the formulation and implementation of policies for alternative medicine in Nigeria.
The committee will also work to create effective synergy between the key players in alternative medicine for sustainable health delivery system, according to Dr Bulama, who was represented at the occasion by the ministry’s Director of Human Resources, Alhaji Musa Shaba.
He stated that the establishment of the committee was not strange as it started with a series of informal interactions between the ministry and Non-Governmental Organisation, Green Center for Alternative Medicine Practitioners (GCAMP).
“This is one of the cardinal objectives of Mr. President’s agenda to have a nation of healthy people and a healthy work force,” he said.
He said the government collaborated with GCAMP to further develop and put more innovation in alternative medical practices.
