The Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA) has established Institute of Child Health (ICH) in the hospital to promote and protect the health and rights of children and youths through monitoring, education and advocacy.

Speaking on the occasion at FETHA 1, the Director of the institute Dr. Thecla Ezeonu said the establishment would bridge the gap created by ignorance on the part of care-givers, which often begot diseases.

“It is our vision to ensure health care and monitoring, up to the age of five years for children in the community, by scheduling appointments for at least two routine checks in a year for children after one year of age, either by community visit and follow up or by invitation to the Well-Baby Clinic”, she said.

She noted that the Institute would increase child routine visits to at least 18 years for immunisation and checks on dental care, developmental and behavioural problems.
