FETHI Resident Doctors Advice CMD to Suspend Promotion Exercise to Pave Way for Payment of Arrears

The Federal teaching hospital Ido-Ekiti chapter of the Association of Resident Doctors has urged the management of the institution to shelve the proposed 2016 promotion exercise and immediately commence the payment of backlogs of previous promotion arrears for 2013, 2014 and 2015.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of its emergency general meeting held on Monday 18th April 2016 and made available to Medicalworld Nigeria. The association observed that since 2014, full salaries were being paid other categories of staff while its memebers are consistently being underpaid; An anomaly they observed to be peculiar to Federal teaching hospital Ido-Ekiti for which other federal tertiary health institutions in the southwest had since corrected in line with federal governement directive.

The ARD also observed that there were plans by the management to unduly terminate appointments of some of its members in training despite the managements' failure to fulfil her own responsibility in part of the training vis a vis payment of update and examination fees for the past 36 months.

Other observations noted by the ARD FETHI include non prioritization of recruitment of new registrars despite gross inadequacies in the sta+ff strength of doctors, the discontinuance of call food for doctors on call since september 2015, plans to conduct 2016 promotion exercise on 9th - 12th May 2016 irrespective of lingering and accumulated backlogs of unpaid promotion arrears of 2013, 2014 and 2015

Hence, the Association arrived at the following resolve to the institutions management:
- To put on hold henceforth the sacking of its members until such time that the management fulfils her own part of the residency training responsibility
- an ultimatum of two weeks to the management to recommence call food for doctors on call as is being done in other tertiary health institution in Nigeria
- To put on hold the proposed 2016 promotion exercise and immediately commence the payment of backlogs of previoius promotion arrears for 2013, 2014 and 2015
- Recommencement and full payment of arrears of the discontinued rural allowance
- Ensure the refund of pension funds already deducted from members who have been categorized as non-pensionable. This also includes the remittance of deducted fund of pensionable members into their respective pension fund administrator (PFA) account.
- Recommence full salary payment to our members with effect from April 2016 salary with arrears of January to March 2016 salaries as being currently enjoyed by other allied health workers in Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti as well as other Federal Tertiary Health Institutions nationwide eg OAUTHC, FMC Owo, FMC Abeokuta, FMC Keffi etc

The Association however warned that continued industrial harmony may not be guaranteed if the management failed to meet the above demand.
