The Federal Government has endorsed the construction of an ultra-modern 300 bed hospital worth $400 million in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The joint venture project pioneered by a local health investor, Universal Medical Innovation (UMI), and its German partners will be sited at Giri district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Disclosing the development on behalf of Federal Government in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Mrs. Uju Aisha Hassan Baba, reiterated the readiness of the Federal Government to partner and support the company towards the realisation of the project.
She said this while receiving the Board of Directors of the hospital led by Air Vice Marshal Salifu Atawodi (rtd). While commending the UMI delegation, she further stressed the need for local investors to collaborate with foreign investors so as to attract more joint ventures into Nigeria’s economy.
“Local investors are supposed to be the leading light to foreign investors through joint venture partnership. “We have many of them (foreign investors) who want to partner with their Nigerian counterparts to invest in Nigeria,” she added. The NIPC boss has already set up a technical team to work with the company to actualise the project within the shortest time frame. Earlier, Atawodi disclosed that the company had acquired a 35.9 hectares of land in Giri, Federal Capital Territory to build the 300 bed hospital that will cost $400 million.
He further disclosed that the world class hospital to be known as Medical City would have state-of-the-art equipment, generate its own power, have hotel to cater for outbound patients, a helipad and other essential facilities that can be compared to any in the world. Atawodi added that the company would contribute 15 per cent of the total cost through bank assistance, while 85 per cent would be contributed by their foreign counterparts based in Germany.
He explained that the siting of the hospital in Giri was due to its proximity to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as patients are expected to come from every part of the world to seek medical attention.
