The federal ministry of labour and productivity has appealed to the leadership of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) for more time to resolve all issues. 

 

This appeal was contained in a memo made available to Medicalworld Nigeria was dated May 26th 2016 and signed by Mrs C C Dike, Director department of trade union services and industrial relations on behalf of the honourable minister

 

The memo titled RE: Resumption of strike final ultimatum, in parts reads:

 

I am direced to refer to your letter no. HQ/JOHESU/ADM/VOL.II/260 dated May 23, 2016 on the above stated subjectand to state as follows:

1. The Government is very mindful of the concerns of JOHESU

 

2. The Government had accordingly given it attention in good faith and shown a desire to approach the matter based on all principles of equity and natural justice.

 

3. That at the last meeting with the honourable minister of labour and employment, Senator (Dr) chris Ngige, you were comprehensively briefed by the honourable minister on the governments efforts to holistically resolve your issues in dispute in a fair and equitable manner. In that regard, you were further informed of the efforts of the honourable minister to appoint a fit and proper person as a conciliator in the industrial relations/ employment relations issues in the health sector based on the powers conferred on him by section 8 of the trade disputes Act, CAP T8, Laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004

 

4. That strike or any other form of industrial action is not the solution in any national industrial relations system especially in a socio economic atmosphere where sustainability of the enterprise for growth and development is critical

 

5.That the ongoing bipartitie social dialogue betweent the government and your trade unions, remains the most viable means of attaining the desired mutual goals and aspiratins in an amicable industrial relations environment.

 

In view of the above, i am further directed to request that the trade unions under JOHESU should exercise patience and give the honourable minister of labour and employement reasonable and necessary time to identify and appoint a suitable and fit person as a conciliator in your matter.
