The Federal Government has disclosed its readiness to vaccinate about 40 million under-five children in the country against measles.

 

Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Ado Muhammad, disclosed this recently during a courtesy call on him by the Managing Director, Leadership newspaper, Mr. Abraham Nda-Isiah, and some members of the company’s editorial team.

 

A statement made available to National Mirror by Head, Public Relations Unit of the agency, Sa’adu Salahu, quoted Muhammad as saying the campaign scheduled for November this year and January next year would be conducted in two phases.

 

 

The first phase, the release quoted him as saying, would be conducted in the northern part of the country with a target population of 24.5 million children from November 21st – 25th, 2015, while the second phase would take place in the southern part of the country from January 28th – 1st February, 2016, with a target population of 14.5 million.

 

He used the opportunity to highlight major achievements of the agency on primary health care including non-transmission of polio virus in the last 13 months in Nigeria. He also commended the efforts of the media in projecting the agency`s progammes and the remarkable achievements recorded in the delivery of effective and efficient primary health care service, especially immunization activities. He thanked the team and described the visit as an honour to the agency, the statement stated.

 

“Dr. Ado appealed to them for continued partnership and support by providing an objective and a developmental reporting of the Agency to the Nigerian populace.

 

“In his remarks, the Managing Director, Mr. Abraham Nda-Isiah said they were in the agency to appreciate the leadership role of the Chief Executive of the Agency especially his unprecedented achievements in primary health care services to the generality of Nigerian populace and explored greater opportunities to deepen the partnership between the two organizations

 

“He assured him of continued support of the leadership newspaper in the service to Nigeria and humanity in general,” the release concluded
